FIFO Project
Company: Miller Waste Date: 2021

About Company: Miller Waste is a large corporation within the waste management industry. They do business all over Canada in the provinces of Ontario, Manitoba, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. They operate over 12,000 vehicles.
Challenge: To come up with the first ever FIFO cost part system for the fleet maintenance industry.
Solution: We had to do initial research outside the fleet maintenance world by reviewing FIFO systems elsewhere. Next step was to identify all the use cases where fleet maintenance would relieve inventory. The eventual solution was to create a central table to store the current onhand history of each part number. This history would store the transaction that the onhand originated from, along with the corresponding quantity and costs in ascending date order. This idea allowed the system to easily utilize the correct cost when issuing out the part from inventory from all types of transactions. This FIFO cost system became an integral success for the waste management fleet industry in reconciling with their accounting practices.

FIFO On-hands
This screen was wireframed to illustrate each part number's FIFO on-hands. The user can easily highlight each warehouse to view the on-hand history of their current inventory. The decision to use Balsamiq was to quickly mockup this screen based on the current EMDECS web application look and feel.
