About Company: FedEx Ground is a large US transportation division within FedEx Corp. They operate over 50,000 trucks and trailers.
Challenge: To streamline their repair business for their rental and purchase equipment. These vehicles are not permanently owned by FedEx Ground.
Solution: After reviewing their current process, it was evident that their main obstacle was not knowing how much repair work had been done for their non-owned vehicles. It was labour-intesive to get total costs for any vehicle. Knowing that there was a large group of business users involved, we wanted to avoid as much impact and re-training as possible. The design was focused on integrating a few new steps only when a non-owned vehicle was being repaired. The eventual output was consistent with the reporting of their current data with the ability to filter out the non-owned units. With the success of this project, FedEx Ground was able to decide on which companies to rent and purchase equipment from.

Rental Companies
This screen was wireframed to illustrate the new setup of FedEx's rental companies. This administration screen took CRUD into effect to ensure they could manage all their rental companies in one place. The decision to use Balsamiq was to quickly mockup this screen based on the current EMDECS web application look and feel.

External Unit Number
A key strategic decision was to allow their repair vendors to record the equipment unit number being from the rental company. This design encouraged the user to search an existing carrier prior to entering a new carrier on the fly. This helped eliminate similar duplication records.
