EMDECS Web

Company: BrightOrder                    Date: 2022

About Company: BrightOrder is a fleet maintenance software company based out of Canada, US, UK, and Europe.  Their EMDECS system is an enterprise-level application with both web and mobile app capabilities.

Challenge: To redesign the EMDECS application from both the UI and UX perspectives. Additionally, the application will need to preserve the customizations that each end-user can experience.

Solution: Develop a web application that is user-centric focused to make their day-to-day operations as simple as possible.  The UI of the application will be designed in a way where the user will feel the trusted brand and have supreme confidence in using the application.  As many users are starting to use the web application on their tablets and phones, responsive web designs need to be considered.  This is a current ongoing project.

Current Version of Complete RO Screen

The current design shows a list of repair orders based on selected Status.  Additional sidebar options are listed on the left hand side along with a Help video.  The right hand side shows a summary of charges and common actions for the highlighted repair order.  Feedback from clients was that the screens appear to be cluttered and much of the information on the screen was seldomly referred to or used.

First Redesign Iteration

This initial design increased the height of each row and allowing the user to click into the entire row without specific values as hyperlinks.  A vertical menu was introduced to maintain user's current navigation.  The lesser used sidebar options were moved to the 3 dots icon.  A colour scheme with new fonts were used to freshen up the look and feel and improve contrast ratios.

Second Redesign Iteration

In this redesign iteration, the data grid with the status filters was changed to this column card look to make it easier to see each individual repair order record.  The card approach also allows for easy drag and drop resorting.  Search, filters and action commands were simplified.  A contracted menu was used to free up space on the screen.

Latest Redesign Iteration

In this latest redesign, a modified vertical menu was brought back to help clients easily navigate between multiple screens as they were accustomed to.  The columns representing the different statuses got a splash of colour to help visually differentiate them further.  Actual photos were used to represent the individual technicians working on the repair orders.  The search, filters and actions were redesigned with buttons and labels to help further assist the clients whom the majority were not tech savvy enough to go by the icons only, as was in the prior iteration.
