EMDECS App
Company: BrightOrder Date: 2022

About Company: BrightOrder is a fleet maintenance software company based out of Canada, US, UK, and Europe. Their EMDECS system is an enterprise-level application with both web and mobile app capabilities.
Challenge: To redesign the EMDECS mobile app suite of products from both the UI and UX perspectives. Expand on the existing suite of products to offer more capabilities for the end user. Provide offline sync capability.
Solution: Develop a mobile app that focuses on the end-users core day-to-day operations. The users need to be able to perform their actions quickly and intuitively. The UI of the app will be designed with the brand and have a connecting look and feel with its web counterpart. This is a current ongoing project.

Current Version of Repair Order app
Current version was designed by another designer. It incorporated a slide-in panel to show the header information of the repair order. The main section shows the current activity with related parts. Based on client feedback, the design here was cumbersome as the user had to bring in the slider back and forth to go from one RO activity to another. The slider itself had a small touchpoint which also made it frustrating for the user's experience.
First Iteration of Redesign
In this first iteration, the design separates the main overview, labour and part sections with clear tabs at the top. The fields have a larger touchpoint and the card separation makes it easy for the user to scroll to see the full picture of their RO. There was a difficult decision to separate the parts section from the labour section. This separation does have a minor drawback in which the user cannot see their activity detail at the exact same time as the related parts. However, the trade-off allows the user to get a complete picture of their labour and parts without bouncing back and forth.

Latest Iteration of Redesign
This latest design removes the EMDECS logo from the header and changes the background colour to a darker blue for better contrast and brand consistency. The footer is removed as the decision was to encourage the user to be focused on their repair order instead of navigating away to other areas. This allowed for more space in showing the repair order details. The Add and More Actions were redesigned and moved to the allow user to access both at all times regardless of the vertical scroll position.
